The cherry on top - whether you use it to fasten or to finish off a look, a simple shoelace, which is often ignored by many, plays an important role on your overall appearance. A set of eyelets must have a pair of shoelace to go with it. The formal option for dress shoes are round, thin and cotton shoelaces; basic colors are commonly used as well but you can experiment on other colors if you want to try something new. With a wide variety of choices nowadays, changing the color and the style of your laces from time to time are inexpensive way of adding character to your shoes.

Below are illustrations on how we lace our shoes:

Bar Lacing for Oxfords

(works on both even and odd rows of eyelets)

Crisscross Lacing

(for less formal shoes like derbies and brogues)

Apart from choosing the lacing style and color, make sure that your laces stay in place in a neat horizontal manner, not vertical nor diagonal; because you don't want to mess up that final touch.
