There are accessories which are vital in a gentleman's outfit such as pocket squares and neck ties. A well dressed man knows the rule by heart when it comes to putting these accessories together. Another overlooked piece is the pair of socks and we can't blame you for that. Who would mind putting an effort to something that is hidden behind trousers and shoes, right? Well it is also good to know that a nice length of pants will definitely show some inches of socks. Occasionally, you might need to remove your shoes, leaving you with no choice but to expose them.

So here are some pointers to take note of for you to avoid committing another fashion faux pas:

I. Dress shoes and dress socks

You should always keep in mind that shoes which are made of quality leather must be paired with an equally high quality socks. This means that sports socks doesn't go with genuine leather shoes. The main reason for this is that sports socks are usually made of thicker materials that appears to be way to bulkier than dress socks. A safe choice is to look for quality dress socks which are made of light weight material and ccan easily slip into that well crafted genuine leather pair.

II. Dress socks and the color of your pants

A word to remember: Streamlining - Something that flows steadily in graceful lines. As much as possible you may want to wear a single color of socks and pants at the same time (blue pants and blue socks, gray pants and gray socks, brown pants and brown socks and the list goes on). Well most men are used to wearing the same color of socks and shoes and another color for pants, but trying this fashion tip might save your overall look. Oftentimes, choosing same-colored socks and shoes make your leg look shorter. On the other hand, a matching socks and pants make an impression of a more fluid look even without your shoes on. This is a very safe rule for business or formal situations. For the more relaxed occasions, you are free to break this rule and maybe wear a charcoal gray pants, bright-colored socks with patterns that match your pocket square or neck tie. Your call, as long as you're confident with it.

III. Dress shoes and the length of your socks

You've invested in a well crafted genuine leather pair and then you decided to wear an ankle length socks with it; and you suddenly realized that something's just not right. The question here is, why would you choose an unflattering cut of socks and cut your budget off at the same time? The acceptable length of dress socks is at least a pair that comes half way your calf. You can find these in most department and specialty stores. This is to avoid exposing your skin and hair. Unless you want to get that are-you-serious-kind-of-stare from people around you.

IV. Shoes, shorts and socks

Shoes such as loafers work best with shorts but doesn't really go well with your socks on because it makes your legs look shorter. If you really want to wear socks with loafers, then go for discreet ankle or foot cover socks.

V. Dress shoes, holes and stains.

Last but definitely not the least. Looking neat on the outside is equally important as looking neat and decent on the inside. As mentioned earlier, an occasion or two might require you to remove your shoes and you just don't want to ruin your entire outfit because of holes and stains on your socks, so please save yourself.

Dress smart, work your socks off and enjoy.
